About the Candle

This candle began as a way to bring the quiet scent of the woods into the home. I’ve always loved the smell of a wood stove — that soft, smoky warmth that fills the air on cold evenings. My house runs on a pellet stove, which is clean and efficient but lacks that natural scent. So I set out to recreate it in a way that felt honest and sustainable.

The result is a hand-poured blend of pure beeswax and pine sap gathered by hand from trees around coastal Massachusetts. The burn releases a subtle, wood-fire aroma — smoke, resin, and warmth — that turns any room into a quiet retreat. I like using it as a meditation candle, but you can use it however you like.

Wild-Harvested Pine Sap

The pine sap used in each candle comes from trees that naturally exude resin when healing themselves. When a pine tree’s bark is scratched or cracked, it releases sap to seal and protect the wound — a natural defense that helps prevent insects and fungus from entering. I collect only the excess resin, taking care not to harm the tree or disturb its growth.

Once gathered, the resin is gently melted, filtered, and blended with beeswax to create a clean, even burn that carries the forest’s aroma right into the wax.

Materials & Craft

• Wax blend: local beeswax and hand-harvested pine resin.
• Wick: wooden wick for a gentle crackle and natural flame.
• Jar: frosted amber glass — 3 ¼″ tall × 3″ in diameter.
• Lid: bamboo with a wax-sealed company emblem (see photo).
• Wax weight: approximately 220 g (7.8 oz) of wax per candle.
• Total weight: approximately 514 g (18.1 oz) including glass and lid.
• Burn time: estimated 42 hours if properly maintained and wick trimmed, and without burning for more than four hours straight.

Experience the Scent

Light it during meditation, beside a bath, or while reading on a winter evening. The candle opens with a hint of pine resin and the gentle sweetness of pure beeswax — a natural, honeyed note that deepens as the flame warms the wax. It finishes with a soft campfire tone — not overpowering, just enough to remind you of the woods. The wooden wick burns evenly and quietly, adding a faint crackle that enriches the calm, earthy atmosphere.

Notes & Care

• Burn on a stable, heat-safe surface away from drafts.
• Trim the wooden wick to 2mm (about ⅛″) before each lighting for best performance.
• When finished, the amber glass jar can be cleaned and reused for storage or decor.

About the Maker

Each candle is poured by hand in small batches using ingredients gathered from the local landscape. The pine resin is sustainably harvested from trees near the Massachusetts coast, allowing the forest to continue healing as it has for centuries. Every finished candle carries the scent of that connection — between maker, forest, and flame.
